Sonic Adventure Autodemo

The Sonic Adventure Autodemo is a non-playable demo that was used to showcase an early version of Sonic Adventure prior to its release in 1998. It was discovered and subsequently dumped in 2013 by Orengefox. [1]

Internally, it's a composite of files from different builds, dated between July 1998 and October 1998. The only exceptions to this are the files START_A/B and GOAL_A/B, dated November 1997. The reason behind this demo having these different files is due to old builds, such as the TGS 1998 demo, being overwritten.

The older files have several conflicts with the newer ones that prevent them from behaving as intended, particularly for stage, CAM and SET files. Only stages that match 1ST_READ's date (October 15, 1998) can load in-game. All others crash immediately due to containing older pointers to 1ST_READ functions and texture lists. Despite this, the pointers in 1ST_READ has to the stage files are still correct.

There are 3 build dates for stages.

  • October 15, 1998: Emerald Coast, Speed Highway, Red Mountain, Icecap, Final Egg, Chaos 2, Station Square, Egg Carrier, SS Chao Garden.
  • October 7, 1998: EC Chao Garden, MR Chao Garden.
  • September 24, 1998: Everything else.
